Welcome to the Margravial Residence

The residence is famous for its high-quality interior decoration, which was mainly created between 1734 and 1745 under the artistic direction of the architect Leopoldo Retti. There is a special reason for the excellent state of preservation and the stylistic uniformity of the interior decoration: the last Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach abdicated in 1791 and handed over his land to the Kingdom of Prussia. The palace was no longer the seat of the ruler and there was rarely any reason to modernize the state rooms.
Today, Ansbach Palace is the seat of the government of Middle Franconia. The state rooms and the faience collection are open to the public.

The Ansbach residence developed from a medieval complex. The Gothic Hall with its ribbed vault was built in the second half of the 16th century and today houses the largest collection of faience and porcelain from the former Ansbach manufactory. The medieval building structure was transformed into a modern residence between 1705 and 1730.
The main floor comprises three suites of rooms that were used separately for official ceremonies: the margrave's apartment, the margravine's apartment and the guest apartment. Particularly worth seeing are the ceiling fresco by Carlo Carlone in the banqueting hall, the picture gallery with rococo works and paintings from the former margravial gallery and the collection of Meissen porcelain in the hall of mirrors.

The prepared margravial horses from the 18th century are a particular rarity.

In the courtyard garden with orangery opposite, a representative parterre with summer flowers and numerous potted plants as well as a medicinal herb garden can be viewed.
The Bavarian State Collection (Adolf Bayer Collection) "Ansbach Faience and Porcelain" is located in the Gothic Hall of the Residence.
