Hofgarten, 91522 Ansbach
Between 1528 and 1535, Fuchs worked in Ansbach as personal physician to Margrave George of Brandenburg (reigned 1527 - 1543). During this time, he also began writing his famous book on medicinal plants, "De historia stirpium commentari", which he then published for the first time in German in 1543 under the title "New Kreüterbuch".
In memory of the outstanding importance of this Renaissance scholar - Leonhart Fuchs is considered one of the "fathers of botany" - and of his more than six-year stay in Ansbach, a commemorative plaque was placed on the wall of the courtyard garden as early as 1922.
The regular exhibition "Ansbach Contemporary" takes place in the adjacent Zitrushaus. Find out more in the calendar of events.
