Rosenbadstraße 3, 91522 Ansbach
This inconspicuousness was already intended by the margrave in 1732. He granted the Jewish community in Ansbach permission to build its own house of prayer. However, this was on the condition that it was to be located in a hidden corner of the town and not recognizable as a Jewish house of prayer from the outside. This was implemented by the court architect Leopold Retti with the construction of the synagogue from 1744 to 1746, which still looks the same today as it did when it was inaugurated. After 1746, the synagogue was only slightly rebuilt. It survived the so-called "Reichskristallnacht" in November 1938 unscathed and has been used as a museum space for cultural purposes since the post-war period.
Today there is no longer a Jewish community in Ansbach and the synagogue can only be visited on guided tours and during special opening hours.
